ABOUT

SAM NELLICKS

AKA Steve Sam Cohen

AKA ASTTIC

Throughout my school years (in Toronto) my best marks where always in art, as I often drew and was surrounded by it. So I went with the flow and interviewed for Ontario College of Art. Over a four year period I specialized in Industrial Design, yet I counterbalanced the rendering and prototyping with fine art theory through my electives.

I painted images straight from my imagination with no intent to show or sell them. I thought showing may affect my originality by the viewers reaction to my art.

After OCAD I worked as a prototyper, but then moved over to Film and Television as a set painter. Painting Scenery led me into Graffiti subsequently changing my ideas of keeping my work private. I started to show my work in group settings.

I intend to make art that will make others feel engaged and stimulated, even happy. What they see is what I had in my mind, or maybe not. Ultimately the piece avoids banality because of its uniqueness.

Do you have the courage to be original

James Rosenquist

I continue as a Scenic Artist, painting with a multitude of techniques, balancing producing art as a business and enjoying it as hobby.

Sincerely Sam 'ASTIC' Nellicks
